Q: What is binge eating?

Binge eating is different from emotional eating, over eating, or stress eating.  According to the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders, a binge is defined as eating within any two hour period an amount of food that is larger than what most people would eat under similar circumstances. There is a feeling of lack of control during the binge. During a binge someone may eat more quickly than normal, eat until feeling uncomfortably full, eat large amounts of food when not hungry, eat alone out of embarrassment, or experience feelings like disgust after the binge. Dr. Leslie helps people overcome binge eating in addition to stress or emotional eating.
